It is believed that Aryamba gave birth to Adi Shankaracharya in her paternal home Melpazhur Mana, because of which this area came to be known as Piravom - the place of birth. Swami Chinmayananda purchased Melpazhur Mana and renamed it as Adi shankara Nilayam. He established Chinmaya International Foundation in 1991. A beautiful Vigraha of Bhagavan Adi Shankaracharya is consecrated in the eastern wing of the Mana. Daily worship is performed here. On January 26th Prathishta day is celebrated and on Adi Sankara Jayanthi ( Vaisaka Sukkala Panchami, April - May ) elaborate pujas are offered to Adi Shankaracharya. This is an ideal place for meditation and Contemplation and this room of Adi Shankaracharya serves as a spiritual energy preserve.
